Cave Springs Camp is a United Church camp located in Beamsville, Ontario offering a unique summer camp experience since 1951. Cave Springs provides Day Camp and Overnight Camp programming for children and youth between the ages of 5-15. We are dedicated to providing a welcoming and safe community environment for all campers where they are encouraged to seek out challenge, build meaningful connections, and explore their relationship with God and others while learning about Christ, themselves and creation.

The responsibility and trust placed in our staff is immense and requires individuals who display a Christian commitment, caring attitude and enthusiasm for children. We are seeking individuals who are looking to explore their own leadership potential, to learn, to grow, and to be challenged.

Camp staff are chosen from a wide range of applicants and go through an intense screening and training process. Staff display a Christian commitment, caring attitude and enthusiasm for children.

Leadership Team

Positions Available:
Asst. Head of Programming, Asst. Head of Day Camp, Asst. Head of Mainsite (Overnight Camp), Health Care Co-ordinator, Integration Co-ordinator, Head Lifeguard, Head of Ropes

Dates of Employment:
Spring Staff (optional) Mid May- June 24, 2019
Summer Staff (mandatory) June 25- August 25, 2019 

Job Description:

Members of the Leadership Team will have responsibilities specific to a designated area of camp. They will attend additional training to prepare for their leadership roles within the camp community.

All members of the Leadership Team will be supervised by the four person Directing Team (comprised of the Camp Director, Head of Programming, Head of Day Camp, and Head of Mainsite).

All members of the Leadership Team will have opportunities to facilitate camper programming and staff training.

Assistant Heads will work in conjunction with their designated area head to plan scheduling, staffing, and programming for their areas. Candidates for Assistant Head positions will ideally have some previous camp experience and a wealth of ideas about how to implement quality staff training, and camper programming. Asst. Head positions are ideal for young leaders looking to take the next step in their leadership development. Under the mentorship of our experienced Directing Team they will have opportunities to take on tasks specific to their individual goals and interests. Asst. Heads will be looked to as community leaders and should be excited to embrace the spirit of life-long learning.

Assistant Heads MUST be available for the entirety of July and August and will ideally also be available to work as Spring staff members beginning Mid-May.

The Health Care Co-ordinator will be responsible for maintaining the operation of the camp wellness centre. Weekly tasks include: intake of all camper health forms, screening and flagging any noteworthy health conditions, ensuring all dietary restrictions are communicated to the kitchen, briefing staff on important camper health notes for the upcoming week. Daily tasks include assessment and treatment of injury and illness in staff and campers, maintenance of all wellness centre documentation, administration of daily medications, other duties as required. The health care co-ordinator will have opportunities to be involved in the planning and facilitation of camp activities and should be excited to be a part of the wider camp community.  Candidates should have experience and/or education in a health related field.

The Integration Co-ordinator will be responsible for promoting the smooth running of an integrated camp experience for all. Specific duties will include assisting staff members assigned to be 1:1 integration counselors each week. Candidates should have experience and comfort working with a variety of physical, social, and cognitive exceptionalities. Familiarity with our partner organization “REACH” considered an asset.

The Head Lifeguard will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Cave Springs pool. Candidates should have good working knowledge of the current Ontario Ministry of Health Pool Regulations. The Head Lifeguard will be responsible for ongoing training of all lifeguards throughout the camp season. The Head Lifeguard will oversee the scheduling of pool times and lifeguard shifts.

The Head of Ropes will be responsible for overseeing the High Ropes and Low Ropes programs. Candidates should have exceptional skills in facilitation and debriefing and should have extensive climbing experience. Formal certification as a RCI (Ropes Course Instructor) must be completed before the beginning of the summer season.

Members of the Leadership Team will:

-Have strong leadership, initiative, and ability to work in a team leadership environment.
-Be open and inviting to all that are at Cave Springs Camp regardless of race, gender, age and background
-Be able to relate well to a variety of ages and demonstrate an ability to mediate, facilitate and build unity among staff.
-Enjoy working with children and possess relevant soft skills in youth interaction
-Have previous experience working in summer camping (preferred), or equivalent experience.

All applicants must:

  1. Submit a Police Criminal Record Check and completed medical form on or before June 1st of the year of employment 
  2. Hold current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain essential
  3. Be available for the term of employment as specified in the contract.

  5. Be willing to live residentially at the camp from June 25th- August 25th, 2018.
